The Italian underwater photographer Francesco Turano started to shoot in 1984 with a particular focus and love for the Mediterranean marine fauna. Since the 1990s his pictures have appeared on major Italian magazines (Oasis, Bell'Italia, Aqua and The Diver), books and encyclopedias, and have as been awarded in prestigious photojournalism competitions (including the Antibes Festival).

Author of numerous publications ("Travel to the Bottom of the Strait", "Underwater in the Mediterranean" - in collaboration with Gianni Neto - "Illustrated Encyclopedia of Invertebrate Marines" - with Francesco Costa - "Calabria, Unknown Mediterranean", "Reggio its Sea"- with other authors and many other minor publications), Turano dedicates more than 200 hours a year to the direct observation of the Mediterranean marine fauna, and in over 25 years of activity he has created an archive with over 100,000 underwater images, always focusing on the preservation of the Mediterranean and the defense of the environment.
